Notary Services » Powers of attorney and deeds » Powers of attorney for use abroad
Irish clients buying or selling property abroad are often asked to sign a power of attorney in favour of a local lawyer or representative. Companies may also need powers of attorney for overseas filings, banking, litigation or commercial transactions.
For use abroad, the power of attorney usually has to be signed before a Notary Public. It may also need an apostille or legalisation before the destination country will accept it.
The usual steps are:
- Send us the draft power of attorney and destination-country instructions.
- We confirm the signing requirements and what ID to bring.
- You attend the appointment and sign before the notary.
- We notarise the document.
- Apostille or legalisation is arranged where needed.
If your foreign lawyer provides exact wording, we will work with that text rather than rewrite it unnecessarily.
