Apostille and consular legalisation

After a document is notarised, the destination country may ask for further certification.

For countries that are party to the Hague Apostille Convention, this is usually an apostille issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs. The apostille confirms the notary's signature, capacity and seal.

For countries outside the Hague system, the document may also need embassy or consular legalisation. This can involve more than one step, depending on the country and the document.
